Dog Boarding Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions apply to all dog boarding bookings with The Biscuit and Barrel. By making a booking, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.

1. Bookings and meet-and-greets

  • All dogs must attend a meet-and-greet before a booking can be confirmed.

  • The meet-and-greet allows us to get to know your dog, assess their temperament and behaviour, and make sure they are comfortable in our home environment and around other dogs.

  • A meet-and-greet does not automatically guarantee that we will accept a booking. We reserve the right to decline a booking if we do not believe our home environment is suitable for your dog or if we have concerns about their health, behaviour, temperament or compatibility with other dogs.

  • A booking is only confirmed once the meet-and-greet has taken place and we have agreed to accept your dog.

  • We may refuse or cancel a booking if information provided by the owner is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading.

  • Owners must provide accurate and complete information about their dog, including any relevant health, behavioural or socialisation issues.

2. Vaccinations and preventative healthcare

  • All dogs must meet the vaccination requirements applicable to our animal boarding licence.

  • Owners will be required to provide evidence of their dog's current vaccination status before boarding.

  • We reserve the right to refuse a booking where a dog's vaccination status does not meet our licensing requirements.

  • Dogs should be appropriately treated for fleas and worms and kept up to date with routine preventative healthcare.

  • Owners must tell us before boarding if their dog has been exposed to, or is showing signs of, any contagious or infectious illness.

  • We reserve the right to refuse a dog that is showing signs of a contagious or infectious illness.

3. Health and medical conditions

  • Owners must tell us about any existing health conditions, allergies, injuries, ongoing treatments, medication or other health concerns before their dog's stay.

  • Any medication that your dog requires must be clearly labelled and accompanied by clear instructions.

  • We will make reasonable efforts to administer medication as instructed, but medication is administered at the owner's risk.

  • If your dog becomes unwell during their stay, we will contact you or your emergency contact as soon as reasonably possible.

  • In an emergency, we are authorised to seek veterinary treatment for your dog where we believe this is necessary for their welfare.

  • The owner is responsible for any veterinary, medication, transport or other costs incurred as a result of treatment required during their dog's stay.

4. Behaviour and socialisation

The Biscuit and Barrel is a home boarding environment where dogs may share space and interact with other dogs. For this reason:

  • Dogs must be comfortable and appropriately socialised around other dogs.

  • We do not accept dogs with a known history of unprovoked aggression towards people or other animals.

  • Owners must disclose any known behavioural issues before booking, including aggression, resource guarding, excessive anxiety, separation-related behaviour, escape attempts, destructive behaviour, reactivity or problems around food, toys or other dogs.

  • Owners must tell us about any previous incidents involving their dog and another dog, animal or person.

  • Dogs must not be booked with us if they are known to pose a significant risk to other dogs, people or themselves.

  • We reserve the right to separate dogs if we believe this is necessary for their safety or the safety of other dogs.

  • If a dog's behaviour presents a significant or unexpected risk, we may require the owner or their emergency contact to collect them.

5. Compatibility with other dogs

  • We carefully consider the temperament and needs of all dogs staying with us.

  • A successful meet-and-greet does not guarantee that dogs will remain compatible throughout their stay.

  • Dogs can behave differently when staying away from their usual home environment, and we cannot guarantee that your dog will get along with every other dog.

  • If we believe dogs are not settling together safely or comfortably, we may separate them or, where necessary, ask the owner to arrange collection.

  • Our priority is always the welfare and safety of every dog in our care.

6. Breed and legal requirements

  • We only accept dogs that are legally permitted to be owned and kept in the UK.

  • We do not accept any dog that is prohibited under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, or any subsequent legislation.

  • Owners are responsible for ensuring that their dog complies with all applicable legal requirements, including requirements relating to identification, registration and exemptions where applicable.

  • Owners must provide accurate information about their dog's breed, type, age and history.

7. UK residency and recently imported dogs

  • We only accept dogs that are ordinarily resident in the UK.

  • We do not accept dogs that have been imported into the UK or adopted from overseas within the previous three months.

  • Owners must tell us if their dog has previously lived outside the UK, including the country they have come from and when they arrived in the UK.

  • Owners must provide accurate and complete information about their dog's history and must not withhold information about previous countries of residence or recent importation.

  • We reserve the right to decline a booking where a dog has recently arrived in the UK or where we have concerns about its health, vaccination history, behaviour or previous living circumstances.

  • Meeting UK entry requirements does not automatically mean that a dog will be accepted for boarding with The Biscuit and Barrel. Our own requirements are based on the welfare and safety of all dogs in our care.

8. Identification and emergency contacts

  • All dogs must have appropriate identification in accordance with UK legal requirements.

  • Owners must provide current contact details and an emergency contact who can act on their behalf if they cannot be reached.

  • Owners must provide details of their dog's usual veterinary practice.

  • Owners are responsible for ensuring that all contact and veterinary information provided to us is accurate and up to date.

9. Food, belongings and care instructions

  • Owners should provide sufficient food for the entire stay, together with clear feeding instructions.

  • Any dietary requirements, allergies or feeding restrictions must be discussed with us before the stay.

  • We will follow the care and feeding instructions provided by the owner wherever reasonably possible.

  • Owners should clearly label any food, medication or other essential items provided for their dog.

  • We will take reasonable care of belongings provided for your dog but cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal items.

  • Please do not provide toys, beds or other items that are particularly valuable or difficult to replace.

10. Emergency veterinary treatment

  • If your dog requires veterinary attention during their stay, we will make reasonable attempts to contact you or your emergency contact.

  • If immediate treatment is required, you authorise us to seek veterinary attention without waiting for your permission where this is necessary to protect your dog's welfare.

  • All veterinary and associated costs remain the responsibility of the owner.

  • Where appropriate, we will use your dog's registered veterinary practice or another suitable veterinary practice.

11. Damage, injury and liability

  • Owners are responsible for any damage caused by their dog to our property, furnishings, equipment or belongings, other than reasonable wear and tear.

  • Owners are responsible for any loss, damage or injury caused by their dog where this results from information that was not disclosed to us or from behaviour that was known or reasonably foreseeable.

  • We take reasonable precautions to safeguard all dogs in our care but cannot guarantee that accidents, injuries or illness will not occur.

  • We cannot be held responsible for illness, injury or behavioural changes that arise during a stay where we have acted reasonably and in accordance with the information provided by the owner.

12. Drop-off and collection

  • Dogs must be dropped off and collected at the agreed times.

  • If you are delayed, please contact us as soon as possible.

  • Additional charges may apply where a dog is collected significantly later than the agreed collection time.

  • Dogs must not be left unattended outside the property.

  • If a dog has not been collected at the agreed time and we are unable to contact the owner or emergency contact, we reserve the right to take reasonable steps to ensure the dog's welfare.

13. Cancellations

  • Cancellation terms and any applicable refunds will be confirmed at the time of booking.

  • If a booking needs to be cancelled because your dog no longer meets our vaccination, health, behavioural or compatibility requirements, we reserve the right to cancel the booking in accordance with our cancellation policy.

  • We may cancel a booking if we reasonably believe that accepting the dog would compromise the welfare or safety of the dog, other dogs, people or our household.

  • Where a booking is cancelled because information provided by the owner was inaccurate, incomplete or misleading, our normal cancellation and refund terms may not apply.

14. Our right to refuse or end a stay

We reserve the right to refuse a booking or end a dog's stay if:

  • the information provided by the owner is found to be inaccurate or incomplete;

  • vaccination requirements are not met;

  • the dog is showing signs of an infectious or contagious illness;

  • the dog's behaviour presents an unacceptable risk;

  • the dog is unable to settle safely in our home environment;

  • the dog is not compatible with other dogs in our care;

  • the owner has failed to disclose relevant medical or behavioural information;

  • the dog has recently been imported into or adopted from overseas and does not meet our UK residency requirements; or

  • we otherwise reasonably believe that continuing the stay would compromise the welfare or safety of the dog, other animals or people.

Where possible, we will contact the owner or emergency contact before ending a stay. In an urgent situation, we may take whatever reasonable steps are necessary to protect the welfare and safety of the animals and people involved.

15. Owner's declaration

By making a booking with The Biscuit and Barrel, you confirm that:
